Eco-Champion: How to lead a sustainable lifestyle

Sustainability is all about making choices that help preserve the planet and its resources for future generations. There are many ways that individuals can make sustainable choices in their daily lives to help reduce their environmental impact.   One simple way to be more sustainable is to reduce energy consumption. This can be done by turning off lights and appliances when they're not in use, using energy-efficient appliances, and unplugging electronics when they're not being used. Another way to reduce energy consumption is to use public transportation, carpool, bike, or walk instead of driving alone.   Another important aspect of sustainability is reducing waste. This can be done by recycling, composting, and avoiding single-use plastics. It's also important to buy products that are made from sustainable materials and are produced in an environmentally friendly way.   Another way to be sustainable is by consuming less meat. Livestock farming is one of the big

Adopt Plants

I love bringing plants into my home. I believe they make the home more interesting by bringing in life and color. I find happiness in just looking at the different shapes and colors of the plant. The icing is when they bloom, ahh the beauty. Very few things give me this kind of happiness.

Isn't it amazing to just look at these babies grow and bloom and ultimately wither away? The full life cycle of plants. I am a proud plant mom and i protect them just like how i do my human kids. But i see a lot of people throwing away their plants because the leaves are brown or they just don't look good or they just want to make room to buy those plants that are "trending" on Instagram.

Also right after Christmas, i see a lot of these Christmas trees that adorned their owners living room jeweled with their precious memories and decorative ornaments just thrown away on the foot walk for the garbage truck to be picked up the next morning.

There are ways you can fill your garden or home with plants without spending much or anything at all. So what do I do? I Adopt them or try to propagate them. So what can you do to scout for free foliage and adopt plants?

  • Spot a neighbor changing their landscape
  • Adopt from friends who are relocating
  • Check Craigslist, Facebook marketplace and local newspaper for free plants
  • Check groups where people share their propagated plants
Try to Adopt plants before you buy them. Its greener, sustainable and also you meet other plant mommies and who knows, they might become your best friends too!
